Fundraising in the 21st Century
It should be simple to donate to your favorite charity, but doing good isn't always easy. Giving from individuals, estates, corporations, and foundations has been on a steady increase for the past 10 years. In fact, a total of 410.02 billion dollars was donated in 2017. However, in the midst of a booming economy and high unemployment, individual giving has decreased in the past year by 1.1% and is expected to keep falling. This is mostly due to the new tax law passed in 2017.
In 2017, there were 1.5 million registered charities up 10% from 2005. While approximately every year 5000 close their doors usually from lack of funding, a little less than 5000 new 501(c)3 charities are formed. The Glamour Project has applied for grants and solicited large businesses and foundations for contributions, but its main source of charitable income is from the shrinking well of individual giving. So far, Glamour Project has maintained itself with in-kind gifts, small fundraisers, and individual donations. As demonstrated by the statistics if Glamour Project is to thrive and grow more creative ways of raising money need to be used.
One opportunity to raise money is through Amazon Smile which Glamour Project has joined! This is a pretty simple and easy opportunity to donate to Glamour Project without much trouble. Simply go to Amazon and choose the charity you wish to support. The Amazon site will walk through the process and will answer lots of questions you may have.
There are two things to consider. The first is that Smile.Amazon.com and Amazon.com are TWO different sites. If you wish to make sure your purchase counts towards a contribution to Glamour Project you need to use Smile.Amazon.com. It can be confusing, but after a few times, it should become automatic for you to go to the right page and make sure at the top of your shopping page it says you’re “Supporting: Glamour Project”.
A second consideration is that .05% is a small donation for the average purchase. But it will add up as the number of purchases increases So shop Smile.Amazon.com as much as possible and ask all your friends and family to register for this program by signing up for Glamour Project the next time they shop Amazon.
